Riga United 1-3 FK Liepaja

A beautiful sunny day at Rigas 49 saw Riga United Ladies take on FK Liepaja.

A bumber crowd were just settling in as FK Liepaja raced into a two goal lead within the first 10mins of the game.

The first goal came on 6 mins, a great move down the Liepaja left,  the ball finding its way to Liepaja captain Greiere in the area and she finished well to give the visitors an early lead. 4mins later the visitors doubled their lead in similar fashion, another move down the Liepaja left and this time it was Gudkova with the finish.

United did not let their heads drop and slowly got a foot hold in the game,  coming close twice with great long distance efforts from Vaciete and Foosnaes both narrowly missing the target.

The black cats started the 2nd half in aggressive fashion, 1st to every ball, winning individual battles while create a lot of pressure on the Liepaja goal.

The best chance fell to Vaciete, through on goal with only the keeper to beat but the keeper managed to stick out a toe and make an all important save. It was all United in the 2nd, trying to find openings but the Liepaja defense stood tall and strong.

Against the run of play, Liepaja won a corner (75 min), which was finished at the far post by Miksone. Game over you would think but United went down the other end with Vaciete through on goal again, but this time she was fouled in the area, clear penalty and red card but the defender was lucky to escape with just a yellow. Vaciete picked herself up, dusted herself down and clinically finished from the spot (77min)

The Liepaja defense held out for the remaining 13mins to leave Riga United Ladies empty handed for the 2nd game in a row.

The Black Cats were much improved in the 2nd half, you scene this young side will grow in confidence throughout the season and mature with every game. They might be downbeat after the game but the future looks bright.
